Connect WhatsApp to OpenClaw
OpenClaw supports WhatsApp as a channel. Once connected, you can chat with your AI agent directly from WhatsApp on your phone.
> Before you start
Make sure you have:
- ✓ A running OpenClaw agent. Your agent must be deployed and in a "Running" state on Clawly (or self-hosted).
- ✓ Access to the OpenClaw GUI. You'll use the built-in settings UI to enable WhatsApp and generate a QR code.
- ✓ WhatsApp on your phone. You'll scan a QR code with the WhatsApp app to link the channel.
> Step-by-step guide
1. Open the OpenClaw GUI
Go to your Clawly dashboard and click OpenClaw GUI in the Channels section of your agent. This opens the built-in management interface for your agent.
2. Navigate to Channel settings
In the OpenClaw GUI, go to Settings → Config → Channels.
3. Enable WhatsApp and show the QR code
Select WhatsApp from the channel list and click Show QR. A QR code will appear on screen.
4. Scan the QR code with WhatsApp
Open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Settings → Linked Devices → Link a Device, and scan the QR code displayed in the OpenClaw GUI. Once scanned, WhatsApp will be connected to your agent.
5. Start chatting
That's it! You can now message your agent on WhatsApp. Anyone who sends a message to your WhatsApp number will be talking to your OpenClaw AI agent.
Alternative: use any existing channel
You can also tell your agent to add WhatsApp by sending it a message through any channel it's already connected to (e.g. Telegram or the OpenClaw GUI chat). The agent can guide you through the process conversationally.
