Connect Email to OpenClaw

Connect your OpenClaw agent to any email account using standard IMAP/SMTP. This works with Outlook, Yahoo Mail, ProtonMail, corporate email, and any provider that supports IMAP.

> Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • A running OpenClaw agent. Your agent must be deployed and in a "Running" state on Clawly (or self-hosted).
  • An email account with IMAP/SMTP access. Most providers support this β€” check your email settings for server addresses.
  • An app password (if using 2FA). Most providers require an app-specific password when IMAP access is used with two-factor authentication enabled.

> Step-by-step guide

1. Get your IMAP/SMTP settings

Find your email provider's IMAP and SMTP server addresses, ports, and security settings. Common examples:

  • Outlook: imap.outlook.com:993 / smtp.outlook.com:587
  • Yahoo: imap.mail.yahoo.com:993 / smtp.mail.yahoo.com:465
  • ProtonMail: Requires ProtonMail Bridge

2. Generate an app password

If your account uses two-factor authentication, create an app-specific password in your email provider's security settings. Use this instead of your regular password.

3. Configure in the OpenClaw GUI

Open the OpenClaw GUI from your Clawly dashboard. Go to SettingsChannels, enable Email, and enter your IMAP/SMTP server details, email address, and password.

4. Start using

Your agent can now access your email. Ask it to check new messages, draft replies, or send emails through any connected channel.

For Gmail users

If you use Gmail, we recommend using the dedicated Gmail integration instead, which uses OAuth and doesn't require app passwords.
